Welcome to Write Time!

What is Write Time?

Write Time is a course of downloadable exercise books (which we call 'Storybooks') designed to show children how to write stories at home. They are created, with passion and imagination, to encourage and inspire children to try, practise, improve, and (most of all) enjoy the act of writing.

Who is Write Time for?

The storybooks are the perfect tool for encouraging creativity in all children - those who enjoy already the act of putting their imagined worlds and characters on to paper, and wish to improve their story-writing skills; those children who like to write stories, and need a little help getting started; and those who believe they can't write stories at all (yes, they really can!).

Our storybooks are ideal for children who cannot get to The Story Studio weekly workshops, and for those who simply prefer to learn in their own space, and time. Current Story Studio students wishing to study creative writing outside of our workshops may also find these storybooks useful, as they offer additional instruction, inspiration, and writing tasks.

What age is Write Time for?

Our Write Time material is written for children aged 7-13, however, from experience we know
writing proficiency is not dependent solely on age. With that in mind, each storybook contains writing tasks aimed at the beginner, intermediate and advanced young writer within - and around - that age range.

Children outside of the 7-13 age range may also enjoy and benefit from these storybooks, which are designed to aid and inspire any and all young writers setting out on journeys of self-exploration, and self-expression.

How does Write Time work?

Our storybooks are an engaging mix of learning, inspiration, and creativity. Each book begins with motivational tasks, which are designed to get the imagination fired up, and creative sparks flying! Then, focused learning tasks explore what a child knows about a topic, while giving opportunities to learn what he or she doesn't. As a child progresses through each storybook, he or she is guided towards writing a story, receiving encouragement and inspiration along the way. The final writing tasks are exciting opportunities to put into practise everything studied so far.

The
storybooks act as building blocks, working together to increase both a child's knowledge of the tools of story writing, and his or her ability and confidence to put them into practice.

What about guidance and feedback?

Every Write Time student benefits from Writing Tips, which offer practical guidance in common areas of writing weakness (e.g. capitalisation, paragraphs, tenses, and so on). To ensure a student's story is the best it can be, each storybook also offers advice in the form of Editing Tips, which show how to check, edit and redraft a story, once it is written.

While we don't offer feedback on individual pieces of writing, we do encourage students to contact us if they're not sure about any task within a storybook, and need it explaining.

At the end of each course, we also encourage each young writer to choose his or her best story, and send it to us, for a chance to have it published on our 'Story of the Week' page.

How do I get the Write Time storybooks?

Write Time is available in courses, each including five storybooks. Our courses are delivered via email, to be downloaded and printed at home.

As we do with our term-time workshops, we offer a free trial of the first storybook, so young writers can try it out for size! After that, our Write Time courses are available to purchase for HK$500 (via PayPal or credit card).

Tell me about Course One

Course One: Writing With Colour shows young writers how to use some of the necessary, must-have skills of good Creative Writing, helping them to write in such a way that a colourful virtual story world is created in the reader's mind, enabling the reader to experience the story, rather than merely reading it - an essential skill in all successful writers.

OK, that's the blurb! If you have any questions not answered here, please feel free to drop us an email (we'll answer you quicker than the time it takes to say, 'It's the right time for Write Time!'). If you're happy to try out Write Time, the free trial of the first storybook is just a click away!

Would your child like to write a story today?

Kindly,
Sharon at The Story Studio
